Be sceptical of the spin numbers on the graphic

Three thousand two hundred revolutions per minute, says the graphic, and the number carries an authority that a tracking system probably has not earned. Ball speed is comparatively easy to measure. Rotation is not.

Consider what the system is being asked to do. It has to determine how fast a fuzzy yellow sphere with no distinct markings is spinning, from cameras placed metres away, on a ball crossing the frame in a fraction of a second. Some systems infer rotation from the trajectory rather than observing it, working backwards from how much the ball curved and dipped relative to what a spinless ball would have done. That is a reasonable method and it is an inference, not a measurement, and it inherits every assumption baked into the flight model underneath it, including air density, ball condition and drag behaviour.

The ball condition part deserves attention. As we have established, felt changes across a ball's life, and drag changes with it. If your spin estimate is derived from observed deviation compared with a modelled flight, and the drag in your model is for a fresh ball, then your spin numbers drift as the balls age. The direction of the error is predictable and the graphic will not mention it.

None of this means the numbers are useless. Relative comparisons within a match, on the same balls under the same conditions, probably hold up fine. If one player's forehand reads consistently higher than the other's, believe it. What I would not do is compare a figure from one tournament with a figure from another, or treat a career high reading as a record in any meaningful sense, or build an equipment argument on a difference of a couple of hundred revolutions.

The wider problem is presentation. Broadcast graphics show a single integer with no uncertainty attached, and viewers reasonably assume that means the system knows. Every other measurement discipline reports a margin. Tennis reports a number in a box with a logo on it.

I would settle for rounding. Give me three thousand two hundred as high, and give me eighteen hundred as flat, and stop pretending to precision the cameras cannot deliver.

Confidence in a graphic is not the same thing as accuracy.
